Default NIKON - MADE IN ?!?

Hello!
Is it important what's the origin of a camera (D200 or D80)?
I mean like Made in Taiwan or Made in Japan? Is there a difference?
Thanx
M

Not really. However, it's generally true that you get what you pay for.

No. Besides, aren't they all made in Thailand?

My D200 says Made in Thailand.

My D70s and D40, their kit lenses, and my new 70-300 VR all say made in
Thailand too. My 55-200 and 50/1.8D say made in China. The only Nikon lens I
have that says made in Japan is the 10.5 fisheye.

I understand that "Made in [non-Japan country]" just means they were
assembled there. The parts may have been made in Japan or elsewhere.

What's important is the quality control and Nikon seems to be doing a good
job of that regardless of where it was made. (Remember how upset people
were at first when Leica started assembling M4 cameras in Canada? Turned
out to only mean something to collectors.)

The parts come from pretty much everywhere. Sensor made in one place, body
another, lens blanks elsewhere, etc.

Reminds me of that old movie, "Crazy People." You have to have very tiny
fingers to make a good camera. :-)

Well, Leica Canada (Elcan) was not some open air, rat-infested factory
in the Far East.
Some of the QC issues that happen at those places are unbelievable.
Like insects inside equipment.

Hmmmm, trust the troll to make an idiot comment about insects in cameras -
any camera stored badly, irrespective of its place of manufacture, is liable
to insect infestation.

Exactly. And the conditions of some of the factories in China,
Taiwan, etc, are condusive to just what you said.
