Large color pictures in Craig's List ads?

how do I put a large fixed picture on the Craigslist ad? I know how to put up to 4 small pictures, but I see many people putting large full color pictures in their ad. When you resize your pictures, even if you resize to a large height-by-width size, just change the DPI (dots per inch) to something like 72. This will make a huge difference is file size while keeping the height and width the size you want. Also, use good compression. I think JP2 has the finest compression of all (versus JPG and GIF but I'll add the photo group who knows which compression is best for full-size photos on Craigslist). What are your photographs of? Do they have lots of colors and detail? |

No matter what the original size is, their ad upload process converts them to the small size. If you want to use large pictures, you have to host them somewhere else... like photobucket or flickr. Then you have to use the html img/ tag in your ad to point to where the image is hosted. Steve |

Thanks, Steve,
Your solution sounds reasonable. However, I have no idea what "html img/ tag" means. Text I put in my ad? I have web hosting from Tierranet, so I can put my picture there, probably, and I know how to point to it. The img tag is html code that you put as text in your ad. Craigslist
allows it. So you would do something like this: ----- Here's a picture of my item: img src="http://www.tierranet.com/url/link/to/my/reasonably/sized/picture.jpg" alt="text describing my item to display while the picture is loading" width="number of pixels wide" height="number of pixels high" ---- And then when someone's browser displays your ad, the img tag gets replaced with the jpg picture at the link in the src part of the element. The width, height and alt are optional and don't need to be there. They just make things look nicer while the picture is loading.
