Looks like a Deer tick to me. Ixodes scapularis. Leave it on and check

Sadly, my poor little friend has already been called to tick heaven.

I always think of that classic Jesse "The Body" Ventura line from the
movie, Predator.
"Son of a bitch is dug in deeper than an Alabama tick."



They are a little easier to differentiate when they are engorged.

snakes are not that much of a problem in Australia, most are killed off by
the spiders ;-P
