Dpreview delays review to allow Canon to fix problem?
The review for the Canon 1DmkIII has been (obviously) held back to
allow Canon to come up with a fix for the focusing problems it has. This activity is slowly turning dpreview more into nothing but a glad- handing ad-sheet for the mfgs? Like magazines that never seem to mention glaring problems with cameras, the problems only the the USERS catch? Dpreview claims to take a long time testing their cameras, for accuracy and thoroughness sake. Lets see what this review looks like if and when it finally surfaces. The camera has been out for MONTHS now. |

Everyone who can afford a 1D Mk III already knows about the problem, and nobody in his right mind will buy one until the fix has been released and tested. So no one is waiting breathlessly for a review of the product in its current state. Except possibly you. Bob |

Because that would be an honest, objective review of the cameras that have been manufactured so far? The review can always be updated when the problem is fixed. Given DPReview's very close relationship with Canon, I wonder whether other manufacturers would be given the same concession of DPReview withholding reviews of their products until they eventually get it to work properly? Still, if you generously sponsor a web site I suppose you might expect some special treatment in return. |

Yes, Olympus comes to mind when they would not allow dpreview to post early model full resolution photos. -- -- r.p.e.35mm user resource: http://www.aliasimages.com/rpe35mmur.htm -- r.p.d.slr-systems: http://www.aliasimages.com/rpdslrsysur.htm -- [SI] gallery & rulz: http://www.pbase.com/shootin -- e-meil: Remove FreeLunch. |

Last one I remember was the Leica M8. But he probably did this a few times since the M8. |
