I have joined to gain some info. can any one tell me what does the
focal length of camera sognify, how much zoom DSLRs provide and what is
the basic diff in a point and shoot camera and SLR(D). I know what
anSLR stands for

Focal length = field of view. So, a short focal length will be wide angle,
whereas a long focal length will be telephoto.

By how much 'zoom' I think you mean how much telephoto. In which case, it
depends on what lens you choose to attach.

Instead of asking the difference between P&S and DSLR, I think it would be
better to state what you want to use the camera for and ask whether a P&S of
a DSLR would be better for your needs.
