Pentax *ist D

My computer (Win 7) is not reading the SD card via the USB port on the
camera. Any ideas? If I take out the SD card, the PC will read the
card in the card reader slot without any problems.

Do the USB cables go bad?

Any cable can go bad. Do you have another device you can try the cable
on?

Also look in the manual for the camera's settings in regard to how it
presents the data when plugged in. IIRC it can be presented as a
removable drive, or as some specialized camera thingy. (You can
probably guess I use the former for mine.) Your camera may have been
accidentally set (or reset) to a mode your computer isn't expecting.
