[SI] New mandate: At the Museum

That's a science museum but the museum part sucks and the aquarium part is the real feature... the rainforest canopy thing is more like a Disney environment but it was cool too. Agreed it's not very museum-like. |

Good luck with all that. Thanks. I saw my cardiologist today and he told me to lose about 20 pounds. Even though he is not doing the surgery, I decided not to ask why he doesn't follow his own advice. Given the circumstances, I am sure "B-Man" will permit you a special old image waiver. Back in the 1940s our old family doctor (a very good one) retired and was replaced a another good doctor, whose advice to everyone was "lose weight and stop smoking"; as he was at least 50 pounds overweight and smoked constantly, no one was surprised when, at age 55, he fell over dead. "Physician, heal thyself", as someone said many years ago. Allen |

Not that elaborate! It's a (60-foot?) sphere with big house plants. You spiral up several loops and take an elevator down to the aquarium in the basement. There's a guy shushing butterflies away from the elevator g. There are some lizards and spiders in cages half way up, etc. Not a whole lot of butterflies, really. There's a pond at the bottom and you walk through a glass tunnel under the pond at the bottom, so from the top, you see people walking through the water below the fish. Lots of gorgeous stuff in the aquarium! The big tank is partly open to the ground level around the rainforest sphere thing. There is a groovy green roof above it all with native plants. |

Well, I'll need to add a pacemaker exception waiver process to the rulz page, but I'm pretty sure I can get that by the board prior to the next round of submissions. for a price... |

Dr. Isadore Rosenfeld is constantly warning viewers to keep their weight down, and he's easily the fattest guy I ever saw practicing medicine. Really good program, though. Good luck with your pacemaker installation. |

Well, it's a museum if you call a lot of dusty old aircraft and engines in unlighted sheds a museum. It's been a few years since I've been there and it may have changed some, of course. Their weekend air shows are pretty good, and you get closer to the planes than you do at most other air shows. But those only start in June, unless they've changed that. Yup! That is June. Better and much more museum-like is the New England Air Museum at Windsor Locks, Conn., very close to Bradley International Airport. Tripod and flash are both allowed in NEAM. Any other good ones in this area, does anyone know? I'd love to see more aviation museums. I believe for Conn. NEAM at Windsor Locks is your only good option. Mass. gives you a little more variety as far as facilities go, but none have the quantity of aircraft you will find at NEAM. http://neam.org/ You might consider a trip to Fall River, Mass. to "Battleship Cove Heritage Park" http://www.battleshipcove.com/ Thanks, I will check that out. Several times a year I visit my sister in Portsmouth, RI, which is not far from Fall River. or the Museum of Science in Boston. http://www.mos.org/exhibits_shows/current_exhibits For Maine, there is the "Owls Head Transportation Museum". http://ohtm.org/index.html Out on Long Island, there is the "American Airpower Museum" at Farmingdale. http://www.americanairpowermuseum.co...ite/Index.aspx Very interesting. I'd love to see that, but I hate the Long Island Expressway system (aka The World's Longest Parking Lot). |

Agreed it's not very museum-like. I was being serious. Zoos and aquariums, inter alia, serve to provide exhibit space. I think if a science qualifies, why not a wildlife museum. What is it they say about a rose? ;-) -- Peter |

Allen I went to a golf outing fundraiser for a local heart and lung hospital. the vast majority of people were smoking and the main course was, you guessed it, fatty prime ribs. -- Peter |
