The first times I bought semi-expensive stuff grom amazon it was
supplied by J&R. Thereafter, if prices were similar to other shops, I
went direct to J&R, if there was no compelling reason to stick with
B&H. There usually isn't a compelling reason if they have what you
want in stock.

However, unlike eBay Amazon.com will back up your purchase from any of its
Marketplace sellers. After all a bad experience even from a Marketplace
seller means poor thoughts of Amazon.com. I have never had a problem with
Amazon.com or any of its Marketplace sellers. eBay I haven't been so lucky
with. If it isn't seller try to **** you in the ass, it is eBay and/or
PayPal.

retailers they partner with also tend to be good, but as another poster said
you do have to note whether the item is coming directly from Amazon or a
partner.

Amazon uses other resellers like B&H or Adorama. You might as well
order from them.

I have bought lots of stuff on Amazon with positive experiences, but I
have not bought a camera there. I'm guessing that Amazon will provide
you with some security, but it is a good idea to check the vendor.
There are LOTS of shady camera shops.
