Even without their new plant being flooded out in Thailan, this
wouldn't have helped Nikon's financial problems:

It's a good thing for Nikons shareholders that it has other ways of
getting revenue than selling cameras...

But the problem appears to be that people are using Nikon's technology
and not paying Nikon. There seems to be *BIG* money involved.

They should stop building new plants in Asian backwaters.

You *do* have a blinkered view of the world.

You should find out a bit more about the world outside your borders.

Earthquakes, floods, etc. Why build on the "ring of fire" or in monsoon areas?

Labor with tiny hands.

That's nothing to do with your claim of an "Asian backwaters".

Of course the US or Canada do not have fires, floods, blizzards,
earthquakes, volcanoes etc to disrupt the plans of men.

Not to get into the any other issues than the well known natural
phenomena involved. Flooding and earthquakes can't be avoided, a jungle
will have rain seasons but you can build factories on higher ground and
you can make a modern structure more or less earthquake safe. It's cost
money but that's a cost of doing business.
