Default Memory cards in Europe

My wife took a trip to Germany recently. When staying at friends of a

the SD memory cards she was using. She was a little worried until she
got home and found they worked fine here. Why would cards not work on
a Windows computer in Europe?

Probably DRM protected card(s). BAD IDEA, badly implemented.

While SD was designed with DRM in mind and has been architectured with
CPRM I have never seen it actually being used.
Besides, who is holding the rights on the photos on that card? Wouldn't
that be the photographer, i.e. the wife?

Maybe you are confusing DRM/CPRM with the regional code for DVDs?
