I'd be more comfortable if it ends up being ~$5k -- given its supposed market position I think it calls into question Canon's commitment to the 1.6 EF-S mount. A $3500 model today is the $1750 model of 2008...or less. At the moment, it doesn't call ANYTHING into question, unless Canon is actively leaking some of these specs, which is an exceptionally poor marketing technique. Canon has leaked info before as their marketing strategy. The 20D was leaked well over a month before the anouncement. Some wag suggested by the time it hit the shelves it would be discontinued |

A higher resolution 1D Mark II in response to the Nikon D2x? Canon did sell the F1n, which like the D70s I suspect is some minor tweaks. Not enough to give it a new name (mk.III) |

It allows you to estimate the market price sensitivity and how big you first production run and distributor stocking should be. It is all speculative, and until it is officially announced, it's useless to say it "does" anything. The 22nd it not far off now, we will soon see. |

Ok, time to have some fun in this group. We've all seen the threads about the supposed pending announcement of the Canon 5D. For purely entertainment value, lets keep a running total of who thinks its real, and who doesn't. For terms of scoring, "yes its real" will be evaluated on the following criteria: 1. An announcement by Canon of a 5D before the end of August. 2. The 5D is full frame. 3. The 5D has ~ 12mp resolution, +/- 2 megapixels. How about, "who gives a ****, let's hope Canon put out a great camera no matter what it's named. Likewise for the other OEM's" G'luck with your poll. Snip How about, "who gives a ****, let's hope Canon put out a great camera no matter what it's named. Likewise for the other OEM's" And here's someone that's taken the poll in the spirit with which it was intended! |

I marked him down as "Yes its real" Maxxum 3D full frame, 16mpixel,
15fps with licensed Olympus anti-dust, DX lense compatible with the anti-Canonite PR forcefield. |

Yes i'm sure its real. For the people who understand German: http://www.digitalkamera.de/Kameras/Canon-EOS-5D.asp Jan Akkermans Yup, I know a little German. "vorläufiges Datenblatt aufgrund inoffizieller Informationen erstellt. Daher keine Garantie auf Richtigkeit der Angaben." Translation: "provisional data sheet based on unofficial information. Just to make it official... everyone was right except for me. :/
Definitely started this thread way too late. That said, does anyone think that the 'leak' was deliberate surepticious marketing by Canon? If this product release was really supposed to be secret, its doubtful all the VARS/retailers would have been given the scoop so far in advance....its a good way to leak a secret, certainly. |
