Default Maco -- manufacturer or marketer ??

apr705 from Lloyd Erlick,

I've never been clear about whether Maco makes
photosensitive goods or just markets.

Someone on rpd remarked, "Maco make an ortho film..."

But is it true? I think they sell materials made by
Kentmere and others.

regards,
--le

Hello,

Was that me that made that comment? I said it because I have some Maco
ortho25 film in my freezer. And I've used some Maco 820 Infrared film
before. Of course, this doesn't mean that they actually MAKE the film,
but I think they do... I seem to remember reading something about the
company once... But now I'm dealing with half remembered facts, so I'll
stop now.

Simon.

AFAIK Maco _makes_ film.
There is Maco IR and some other films sold under its own brand; and
now the Rollei R3 is also (I think) made by Maco.

Magdalena

I'm afraid not. Maco does not make film, i.e. they don't own film
coating equipment. They buy film from manufactureres and re-sell it,
just as Rollei does. Check some of the threads on apug.org . Edward
Zimmermann wrote extensively (and knowledgably) about the situation.

I'm not sure why whether they make the film or re-sell it matters from a
film user's perspective. I've used some of the Maco IR film in 120, and
I don't care who really made it, it's pretty neat stuff.
