BARIphotoCAMERA
International Award 2006
A trigger for the economy
Work in progress of an enterprise tradition

"Bariphotocamera. A trigger for the economy - Work in progress of an
enterprise tradition" is an international photography competition to
promote the economy of Bari and the Province of Bari domestically
through culture and creativity.
The Chamber of Commerce of Bari promotes and has devised the
initiative. The competition foresees not only the awarding of prizes,
but also the creation of an important exhibition and relevant
catalogue.

The subject of the competition
The Chamber of Commerce of Bari has a historical vocation of promoting
and developing the territory's economy and its most representative
sectors: trade, industry, handcraft and agriculture. The bearing
sectors of an economic and social fabric in which more than 161,000
companies operate. These companies, principally small and medium sized
ones, are undergoing a complex moment, torn between the need to
preserve their vocations, particularities and territorial traditions
and the innovative and strongly competitive thrust of an increasingly
globalized economy.
The European integration processes first, then enlargement, the new
emerging competitors, are some of the factors which most affect the
traditional company organisation. A market without limits, either
outside or inside the home needs a change, a growth, not necessarily in
terms of size, but which is one step ahead, a flash of innovation, of
professionalism, of company organisation.
The photograph competition is a way for the Chamber of Commerce to
document this sort of work in progress, which has involved small and
medium sized enterprises from Bari through the most representative
expressive means of contemporary communication: Photography.
This is why the Chamber of Commerce is organising a photography
competition to create a veritable forum of images to bear witness to
and document these transformations, these changes, this repositioning
of companies and territorial contexts.
The photography competition is also aimed at creating a more
constructive connection between enterprises and the world of culture,
because producing culture is an excellent and courageous way of
creating enterprise. Culture is economy and thus through this
initiative we intend to provide a contribution to the growth of the
economy of Bari, also involving art and creativity.
After these introductory statements describing the final aim, the
Chamber of Commerce of Bari invites the most famous emerging authors,
professional and amateur photographers to dedicate themselves to this
fascinating work of interpreting the above mentioned theme.
