Which photo printer?
I am looking for a photo printer for less than $400. Can you recommend a printer that will produce great prints up to 8x10?

Canon....substitute for ip4000...4100 or what...great stuff. Just look for model with 5 carts, not 4.

Go he http://www.henrys.com/webapp/wcs/sto...nrys/index.jsp Pick your currency then navigate to the digital section then printers. They list a vast array of photo printers "with" the prices. There are many for your price range that can achieve the results you're looking for. I'd stick with a printer that has multiple ink jet cartridges for best results and to replace only the colours you use the most. I use the Canon i950 and love it. The i950 (and the newer i960) has 6 separated ink cartridges (about $17.00CAD each for new cartridge). I print a lot and find that the "photo cyan" and "photo magenta" usually run out first. Remember that the paper quality is also important to achieve the best results. My 2 cents worth. |

Asking such a question will get you any number of answers along the line of, "I use *X* model printer. I like it. You should buy it." What is wrong with the printers you have looked at? Why won't they do the job for you? $400 will buy a nice printer. Do you want to spend all of it? If so, then look at printers that cost $400, and pick the one that best suits your needs. If you honestly can't decide between a few models, than come back with specific questions. "What car under $40,000 should I buy?" will get the same sort of answers. They won't answer your real question, which is, "Which car is best for me?" The reason is because you haven't told us what you want other than 8X10 and $400. -- Bill Funk Replace "g" with "a" funktionality.blogspot.com |

The canon printer I have works well and seems frugal on ink (a VERY important consideration) but the software and profiles that came with it were pretty lame. I'd budget for a printer, one custom profile for a paper you like (ilford classic pearl is the one I chose) and something like Qimage to print with. Basically what I'm saying is paying $300 for the printer and this $100 worth of software will produce better end results than paying $400 for the printer and trying to use the included printing software. Also will save a bunch of headaches and wasted paper/ink. -- Stacey |

I love my HP 7350 Photosmart printer I bought about 2 years ago. I've made some superb 8x10 prints. HP has come out with newer versions of the Photosmart series, of course, and I assume that they're at least as good or better than my HP 7350. I paid about $200 for it. Jim C. |

Very happy with an HP 7960. This one has been discontinued but is still
available for less than $200. OEM HP Ink is readily available on Ebay for ~1/2 MSRP. Color prints are indistinguishable from a photo lab. I think the next generation model is the 8450. If you want to print in B&W, the HP system is the only way to go without spending $500 on an esoteric printer and custom inks. Best, Ross "secret squiddle" wrote in message ...
