Default Nikon D70 flash

I was lead to understand that the D70 flash synchronisation was up to 500

of
a sec. When I use the built in flash it reads in the view finder 60th of a
sec.

Under normal circumstances, Nikon SLR bodies (I don't have a D70, but expect
it would work the same way as the other Nikon bodies I have) try to balance
ambient-light exposure with the flash, subject to the shutter speed being
1/60 or faster. So if you were to try the same experiment in brighter
light, I would expect the shutter speed to be higher.
