Sneaky, sleazy Windows machinations on updates

That is, until the next Windows update at which point the auto-on function re-activates and "Edge" is up and running again. How many other browsers just turn themselves on, unbidden by a user? I was all set up on Edge only to be told by the Tax Dept not to use it! So I had to change to Chrome! Chrome is not bad, though. |

I was given the same advice from our State's tax department, though I was using FireFox. I told them that it is not my problem that they can't write a website that is browser-independent. It turned out that the problems I was experiencing were due to someone on their end entering bogus information about my business. -- best regards, Neil |

I'm not cow-towing to any incompetence. YMMV. it may not be incompetence. it's possible that they are using a feature in chrome that other browsers do not offer. chrome has become a platform. if that's not the case, then other browsers will more than likely work, even if they say it won't. but if for some reason you can't find a browser that works, you'll have to fall back to old-school paper, along with the delays, costs and risks associated with it. you're only making your life more difficult than it needs to be by doing so. not paying your taxes because their web site isn't fully standards compliant isn't going to fly. You can play your hand any way you want, I'll do the same. this isn't about what you or i or anyone else chooses to do. people are responsible for paying taxes, and 'i can't pay because your web site is broken' is *not* going to fly. It turned out that the problems I was experiencing were due to someone on their end entering bogus information about my business. government incompetence and corruption is a separate issue. Not in this case. in *every* case. governments are incompetent and corrupt. there is no escaping that. |

Chrome is working fine, but I do keep a copy of IE11 installed for some old apps. |

Remember the old days when IE was the one most supported? only because microsoft locked people into it. Look at it now. Companies need to support all the common web browsers: Chrome, Firefox, IE, etc. most do, but not all browsers have the same features or work correctly. |
