Download w/card reader vs camera
New to digital photography however I found that it's quicker to download
images, especially raw, from a card reader than the camera. Is this true of all cameras? TIA |

Basically yes. Firewire and USB card readers can move data much faster. Some
FW readers are pushing 10MBps with the right cards. That would be copying a full, 1GB card in under 2 minutes |

The issue for me was not so much that of speed, as I've found the card
reader for the xD cards in my Olympus C-5000 faster than their USB port. The issue for me is that of battery drain. I don't have to use the camera's internal battery for the downloading process. The card reader was cheaper than the external power supply, which is on my "wish list." |

It's also possible that your USB ports and/or card reader are the older,
slower USB 1.1 (12/mb/s) instead of the newer USB 2 (480 mb/s). Tom P. |
