OPTICAL COMPARISON: Contax G Series Vs. Contax SLR Series
Hopefully someone can help put my brain to rest as I'm spending hours
looking at photos between the two... It seems the G series lenses have this almost surreal look to them while the SLR lenses have a more robust, but perhaps more "raw life" look to them. I seem to also see a more translucent/transparent image with the G photos and a more robust/thicker look with the SLR photos. All things aside (mechanics and utility of one mechanism vs. the other), how would you describe "the look" of the G lenses vs. the MM/AE type SLR lenses? Thanks for all subjective response and even possible same photo comparisons if anyone happens to have compared the same focal length (say the 28mm of each) with the same distance/subject/lighting, would be cool to see a side by side comparison. |

I've shot both, and the G lenses are beyond compare. I think the term you're looking for is depth, or the 3D look that some lenses can provide. Simply put, their combination of sharpness, contrast, and color fidelity is one of the best in the business. Thanks for all subjective response and even possible same photo comparisons if anyone happens to have compared the same focal length (say the 28mm of each) with the same distance/subject/lighting, would be cool to see a side by side comparison. |
