Nokia uses other device to do video in cell phone ad
In article c515403a-4f14-40d3-b344-20969e496248
@q20g2000vbx.googlegroups.com, RichA says... Now, imagine if the DSLR sellers were forced to admit they used medium format equipment or large format equipment for their camera ads? That happens all the time. -- Alfred Molon ------------------------------ Olympus E-series DSLRs and micro 4/3 forum at http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/MyOlympus/ http://myolympus.org/ photo sharing site |

So you know it happens. What about the "all the time" part? Feedback received from other photographers when discussing the matter. So you know all photographers who shoot all photography for all camera advertising? Get around, doncha? BTW: In English banter, "all the time" does not mean _all_ the time. It means "commonly". Do you really believe photos of compact cameras are used for billboard- sized ads? If it's a compact camera being advertised in the photo, yes. ;-) It wouldn't matter for most billboard sized ads - the viewer is too far away to see pixel level detail. When you see a billboard by the side of the road it is about the same as holding up a 6x4 print at arms length. That said, in most professionally produced "billboard" advertising the photographers use appropriately professional equipment whether 35mm, MF or even LF. Because the advertising photography being done for that is also going to be used for magazines, poster advertising and so on. -- "C'mon boys, you're not laying pipe!". -John Keating. |

In other words you agree with me that tiny compact cameras are not used for this purpose. -- Alfred Molon ------------------------------ Olympus E-series DSLRs and micro 4/3 forum at http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/MyOlympus/ http://myolympus.org/ photo sharing site |

But it's also true that you wouldn't know the difference - let me restore what I wrote and you snipped out: It wouldn't matter for most billboard sized ads - the viewer is too far away to see pixel level detail. When you see a billboard by the side of the road it is about the same as holding up a 6x4 print at arms length. You wouldn't be able to tell if it were made from a compact camera ... with the sole caveat being that the photo were taken within the ability of the camera. Adequate lighting and technique would take care of that. -- "C'mon boys, you're not laying pipe!". -John Keating. |

Now, your photo, which medium format or large format camera did you use and what DSLR was it that was promoted with it? And what did the other photographers use? I'd really like to know if there's a certain pattern ... Do you really believe photos of compact cameras are used for billboard- sized ads? What resolution does a billboard have? If I read http://www.jonessign.com/billboards_designspecs.php right and other sources, billboards have a tiny bit less resolution than high gloss magazines, are looked at only shortly (especially when hurling past at 65mph) and usually don't figure full size photographs either. Speaking of TV, the 2 MPix of HDTV is certainly out of reach for phone and compact cameras to demonstrate their own shots ... -Wolfgang |
