Default MECABLITZ 30BCT4 flash overheating

Good day, I'd like to see if anyone has a MECABLITZ 30BCT4 flash? I
was just given one by a retired photographer and the batteries are
sooo hot in temp?

I'm using normal Duracell's in it.

And every once and a while I hear this clicking noise and to me it
sounds like it would fire but doesn't.

Thanks
