Does anyone know if anyone still makes C41 processing kits, there used to be all kinds of them, where did they all go? Anyone know of a Canadian dealer for any of the ones still being made? W |

Henry's I think stocks the Agfa kits. Fotochem out of Montreal sells kits he makes up. I've used his Ra-4 stuff and it works well and the price is right. He might also have the Agfa kits in stock but his are cheaper. The small hobby kits IMHO don't make much sense. The cost isn't much if any cheaper then getting just processing done from a lab. OTOH the fotochem kits look very reasonable. The bigger the kit the more reasonable. Nick |

I used to do the processing myself, and although I don't miss colour balancing prints, I do miss popping a roll of film into the developer and half an hour later pulling out processed negatives. I'm also thinking of getting back to the basics and trying some of the new B&W films. Right now I am saving my nickles for a film scanner...... W |

According to Henry's website nada.... That website is worth less then you pay for it. The local Henry's stocks colour paper and chemicals. The website doesn't mention any Ra-4 products. I'm fairly sure the Agfa E-6 kit is also on the shelves. Best to ignore the website and call the main store. Doesn't anybody near you do only processing? The fotochem kits are good for Ra-4. I've used his other chemicals for B&W and they are great. Soon I'll be ordering his C-41 kit. http://www.colba.net/~fotochem/ Nick |

Last time I called Hanks I got dumb, then called the outlet and dumber, finally found what I wanted by going to the store and looking on the shelves. I live in Toronto, but hate going downtown, especially in winter..... Sometimes it is a waste to send films to a lab, getting the negatives and prints, when the prints are not needed. I think I know a place that should, but have not had the time to call hem yet, just called them and they do it, I will take them the next roll and see how they do, they came highly recommended however. I still might try the C-41 kit though, and see how it goes..... I liked doing the ones I did years ago..... W |

I live in Toronto, but hate going downtown, especially in winter..... I know the feeling. If you're lucky you get transfered to the pro desk and that's better. Actually the few times I called the downtown store for the darkroom department they weren't bad. Walmart will do just processing-) If they aren't busy they even do it while you walk around the store. I still might try the C-41 kit though, and see how it goes..... John from fotochem ships quickly and you won't have to pay PST. Nick |

That scazes me, the Walmart clerk probably knows nothing about cameras or how to properly handle film....... I still might try the C-41 kit though, and see how it goes..... I know that C-41 chemistries decompose fairly quickly, powders last longer then liquids..... I may send him an email.... W |

Me: " Ya the film fridge" Them: " We don't have a fridge" Me: "Behind you" Them: "What?" Me: "Turn around" Them : " Oh" Me: " Those little boxes are film" That scazes me, the Walmart clerk probably knows nothing about cameras or how to properly handle film....... If the chemicals are okay and the machines clean it should be okay. If you only get processing they don't even cut the film up. I gave them a test roll awhile back. It was fine. Makes up 5litres. He sells smaller kits but you'll end up paying more per roll. It can be cheaper to get the bigger kit and have some go stale then to get a couple of smaller ones. With the Ra-4 kit I got I only make up the amount of chemicals I need. The concentrate will keep a lot longer then the mixed solutions. The C-41 kits are good for 10 rolls of 35mm per litre of working solution. That sounds right. He includes directions for making up smaller amounts of chemicals. All you need are some small graduates or some kids medicine syringes. The little ones without points that they sell for a couple of bucks. They make measuring small amounts of liquids relatively easy. Nick |

Wonder about payment though, I don't believe in credit cards (don't have one), wonder if he will take a money order? Might be worth a run to Montreal, I need some bagels anyway..... W |

You get it back rolled up in a plastic tub. Got'em one thing bugged me though, his US$-CA$ conversion is a little high for a US price. Does he still list $1.50 for the conversion? When the exchange rate was more like $1.60 he would give Canadians a break and only charge $1.50. Best to ask him but I think you get the current exchange rate. With the money order I guess you'd have to wait for it to get to him. Nick |
