Their latest issue explains why, from a group of professionals. Seems
that the remaining sports photogs are likely contracted by teams
themselves.

The smartphone sports photographer isn't about to replace the pro on
the sidelines at the major sporting events, from tennis, football (both
types NFL & FIFA), NBA, MLB, NHL, open tennis, F1 auto racing,
Olympics, etc.

Some photogs will be contracted by teams, some by media, and some will
be credentialed as free-lancers. What you won't find are prime
locations at sporting events crowded with the selfie mob hoping for a
scoop. No smartphone is going to replace a pro-grade camera with
quality fast glass.

Probably not, but some of these people reported income drops and shifts
of 70-80% down in the sports area. Some shifted to other areas.

Not so good sports photogs, like not so good chefs, and not so good
plumbers, have all been known to experience and report income drops.
70-80% have probably shifted to flipping burgers, or trying to be that
guy who knows where everything is at Home Depot.

I wonder if the Home Depot guy also writes apps.

If the Home Depot guy also knows what those "everythings"
do I'd be somewhat impressed. If [s]he also writes apps
[s]he's probably too young to know all that stuff. G
