Canon's 20Da
I understand that in addition to the special filter
to let through infrared for astronomical photos, the Da also has a better LCD screen for more accurate manual focusing. -Rich |

It can only be used for short durations as a focusing aid. Mark |

See the article http://www.letsgodigital.org/en/news...tory_2550.html A rather special case for just astrophotoraphy and appears to be more of a way to separate Japanese armature astronomers form their yen. All you need is good focusing screen and here is the best. http://www.keoptics.com/ Only a fool would use the lcd for focusing. I wondered about it myself since on the point and shoots that were adapted for astronomy, it proved almost impossible to achieve a good focus. But even a focusing screen has it's limitations. Amateur astronomers used to use a screen called the Beattie Intense Screen which provided a much brighter image or a knife-edge focuser that was used in place of the SLR which was then put back on the telescope after focusing was completed. |

It could have applications beyond amateur astronomy. -Rich |

I know that standard black and white CCDs can go pretty deep into the infrared. I don't know what a completely unfiltered colour CMOS chip is sensitive to. -Rich |
