Default F3 & F3HP

I suspect I should apologize now because I know this has probably been asked
about a million times. What is the difference between the Nikon F3 and the
F3HP? Is the F3HP worth the extra money? TIA.

The difference between the two is the "top" (viewfinder). The HP viewfinder
is good
for people with glasses. HP stand for high eye point. The distance from the
eye to the
viewfinder can be larger using the HP. There is also a light bottom on this
viewfinder which
iluminates the LCD. The HP is larger. I think the F3 looks better with the
non HP viewfinder but the HP is a better finder. It depends of how much the
price difference is and if you use glasses. If you go with the non HP you
can always get a HP viewfinder later. Sometimes you
can get them very cheap. I have both.

the non HP has a higher magnification.
the HP has a smaller magnification which is more suited for glass wearers
whos
eyes are further from the viewfinder.

The illumination feature is common to both the HP and non-HP finders. If you
want a more compact camera get the non-HP. If you are willing to go with
something a little larger and heavier, go with the HP. I would estimate that
about 85% of the F3 cameras were supplied with the HP finder, once they
introduced that version in 1982.
