Extention Tubes... What's the difference?
I plan on purchasing some extention tubes for my Canon D-Reb. The Canon 12
& 25mm tubes are about $80 & $130 each. Kenko offers a set of 3 for $120. Is there going to be any noticeable difference? It is just a hunk of metal w/ no glass right? I would also like to get a Sigma 1.4x TC to use with my non-"L" lenses. Anyone out there own any of these? Thanks for the help. - Harrison |

Check that it will fit the Kenkos, I suspect it ought to as thee is nothing inside the tubes to obstruct it, but do make sure before buying. I'm not sure what the mechanism is to prevent it being fitted to non-EF-S cameras. -- regards, dslr |

I'm not sure what the mechanism is to prevent it being fitted to non-EF-S cameras. I wouldn't think anything would obstruct the Ext tubes as they are hollow. I know that the Canon Teleconverters must be used with "L" lenses of 135mm and above due to the offset of the optical elements... the protrude into the lens by about 1/4" or so. I don't think that is a problem with the Sigma TC though. I'm not too concerned if the Sigma TC works with my kit lens or not. I want it to work with the 75-300mm and 28-135mm. It those work, I'll be in good shape waiting for my 300mm f/4 IS to arrive in August. I'll get a Canon 1.4x TC for that. - Harrison |

Extention Tubes... What's the difference?
Go with the Kenko TC - The Pro 300 is the best third party 1.4 and 2x TC
I've ever used. Remember TCs are not designed for wide angle or normal focal length lenses. You might also test carefully if you have and rear focusing lenses. The Sigma TC will have compatibility problems. As far as I or anyone I've talked to can tell, the Kenko tubes will do jes'fine. -- http://www.chapelhillnoir.com home of The Camera-ist's Manifesto The Improved Links Pages are at http://www.chapelhillnoir.com/links/mlinks00.html A sample chapter from my novel "Haight-Ashbury" is at http://www.chapelhillnoir.com/writ/hait/hatitl.html "skymuffins" wrote in message ... Recently purchased a set of TriPlus Extension tubes (same as Kenko but different name on the side). They work just fine with my EOS50E and I'm quite happy with the image quality. I doubt the Canon air is any better optically than the Kenko or TriPlus air. Can't help with the Sigma TC as I don't have one, however, my opinions of Sigma in general are well documented in this forum |

However, there is "something" in the EF-S mount to prevent an EF-S lens being fitted to an incompatible camera (i.e anything other than a DRebel atm). That may also apply to the tubes - do check before buying. -- regards, dslr |

A good point indeed. Both of my lenses have a rear focusing element. Neither extends beyond the bayonett mount though. I will certainly keep that in mind Thanks Tony - Harrison |

Check very carefully. Usually teles are ok and you really don't want to use
a TC with a wide angle anyway. If budget doesn't allow for the Pro 300 I've used the next model down (MC-7 in 2x and I think MC-4 in 1.4x) for yearsa and they are pretty good. I think the Tamron SP TCs are the saem as these Kenkos. I will go with the Kenko then. I am getting the Canon 300mm f/4L IS in
August, I plan on purchasing the canon 1.4xTC for that. Canon's own TC is only compatible with "L" glass above 135mm. I only need this TC for my 28-135mm and my 75-300mm lenses. Thanks again!
