I ain't selling mine. Now, when Nikon introduces their pro FX scenery
shooters camera, probably at Photokina, the D200 might be relegated to
being a backup camera.

Me neither...for portraits I need the ISO 100 (true ISO 100, or lower) and
neither the D3 or D300 has that. Well, Nikon finally got the sensor size
right (D3) for my purposes...now just take care of the sensitivity (I don't
want a s**tload of ND filters).

See this thread which in part states:

"Pay special attention to the "additional settings". This means the D300 can
shoot in an ISO range of 100 to 6,400."

It's a pushed ISO 100 like ISO 3200 on the D200. So I'm guessing it has
the same noise as ISO 400 but allows slower shutter speeds to avoid the
need for a neutral density filter and nearly the same thing could be
accomplished by underexposing and pushing in post processing.

Or same as ISO 200?

Good old PP seems to be more powerful then the hardware. Forever RAW and
Jpeg no more. My Nikon P&S shoots in ISO 50 strange as it seems. Have you
ordered your D300 yet?

I think there is a slight advantage to faked high ISO in camera though
probably not much.

That's typical for the smaller cameras to work better at low ISO, it's
high ISO where they have problems. I'm not really clear how the D200
fakes lower ISO, it's sort of counter-intuitive.

No I'm waiting for a used D3, I have a D200

I saw that but that isn't the same thing as altering the gain of the analog
amplifier (hardware) in the camera. This is just giving the wrong exposure
anyway and letting firmware/software salvage as much as possible.

By which you mean a D3-like camera with a smaller form factor in exchange
for slower operation? I'm drooling already :-)
