OT - Big changes from Google
Hi. I am posting this message from Google's new GOOGLE GROUPS 2 web
interface. This new system is about to replace the older and current version of GOOGLE GROUPS. They have made at least two major changes: 1- NNTP Posting Host will no longer reveal the originating IP address of the poster. Try to to find an IP in my header. 2- When you reply to a post through GOOGLE GROUPS 2, the full text of the post you are replying to will be quoted in full. Posters will not have the ability to trim or snip quoted text. Worst of all, the reply will automatically be top posted, on top of the mandatory fully quoted text. JP |

1- NNTP Posting Host will no longer reveal the originating IP address of the poster. Try to to find an IP in my header. Google does include tracing information used to track reported abuse. Note the following headers: X-Complaints-To: X-Trace: posting.google.com 1091576294 2705 127.0.0.1 (3 Aug 2004 23:38:14 GMT) .... the latter of which contains a unique ID that Google probably links with your IP address for future reference. On second thought... 1091576294 would be the big-endian representation of the IP address 65.16.33.250, which resolves to host33-250.discord.birch.net, a (presumably dial-up) host from birch.net, which is a regional provider in the US. Is this where you posted from? 2- When you reply to a post through GOOGLE GROUPS 2, the full text of the post you are replying to will be quoted in full. Posters will not have the ability to trim or snip quoted text. Worst of all, the reply will automatically be top posted, on top of the mandatory fully quoted text. That is much too annoying; and, frankly, I doubt Google made such a mistake. Perhaps it's just the default behavior which can be disabled through some "advanced settings" menu somewhere? -Tudor. -- To reply by email, remove two L's from "freLLlling" |
