Back-illuminated sensors and microlenses
According to these sources:

Does anybody know why? Fill factor should be close to 100% in a back-illuminated sensor. -- Alfred Molon ------------------------------ Olympus E-series DSLRs and micro 4/3 forum at http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/MyOlympus/ http://myolympus.org/ photo sharing site |

Does anybody know why? Fill factor should be close to 100% in a back-illuminated sensor. Perhaps two reasons. There are several transistors per pixel as well as the photodiode on the silicon wafer - so the surface can't be 100% photodiode. Back illuminated sensors suffer from light bleed between pixels. Microlenses possibly work to reduce this. |
