Yes and no.

Yes, for the most part, the vast majority of lenses for Canon digital SLRs
are AF. Almost all of them in fact- certainly all those within reach of the
bulk of consumers.

No, there are a few specialist lenses (that most people will never own- the
TSE lenses for example) that are EF fit but manual focus only. And there are
custom-built adapters to fit other mount lenses onto a Canon body that do
not autofocus.

The FD lenses won't work if that's what you mean.

Well, they won't work without an adapter. Canon made 2. One had no
optics, and lost the ability to infinity focus - it was intended for use
with FD macro equipment, and since most macro work is best done using
manual focus this is quite satisfactory. The other was in effect a
moderate teleconverter (about 1.3x IIRC) for use with the extreme FD
telephotos. The latter is quite rare, and only works with a limited
range of lenses; the former is relatively easy to obtain and quite
useful.

It is also possible to obtain EOS - M42 adapters.

The Canon EOS bodies do have the advantage of working quite well with
non-EOS lenses; setting to Av (aperture priority) gives good stop-down
metering.

The FD mount lenses will not work on the EOS mount cameras. There are
adapters you can purchase that will allow them to function in the fully
manual mode. However, you will loose an f-stop of light with an
adapter.

There are a couple of fully manual lenses you can purchase for the EOS
cameras such as the Peleng 8mm lens. You have to use this lens in the
fully manual setting, and it is a manual focus lens. There are a
couple of other special lenses that are fully manual.

Also, you can set the EOS lenses on manual focus.

However, for the most part you need to use true auto-focus lenses.

I have several old (30 or more years) Contax\Yashica lenses which work
on my DRebel with an adaptor (no glass) plate I got for $30 (US).

No light loss, all focus to infinity, all FAST lenses:

135 mm f2
80 to 200 mm zoom f3-f3
50 mm f1.8

If you have any Contax/Yashica lenses you can get the adaptor by doing a
search for contax/EOS on e-bay and placing a bid.

Thank you guys for the excellent information.
I will receive the camera and the lens Oct the 9nt and will come back
requesting more help.
Thanks again

John
