This whole think is According to the "SI Rulz", the deadline is actually tonight, and as I type this, has not yet passed. Methinks the posting was slightly premature, but does it really matter? It's not really a competition, after all. - Solomon Rulz? You mean there is actually a recorded chronicle of expected behaviour for Shootin? Amazing! No Solomon, It doesn't matter in the context of the universe. It does however matter in the contest of encouraging a thought process. I originally baulked at needing to consider 100% the opposite of our seasonal period to accommodate northerners. *THAT* matters because it carries with it the suggestion that only northern hemisphere dwellers are eligible to enter. Then I get a flame telling me to pull my head in and get creative. OK, that's fine by me. Now... This whole shootin thing was started by Lisa to encourage creative thinking and band together a group of despots that clearly couldn't form a team if their life depended on it. Now with regularity, we have *late entries*, *early publication* and people questioning me because I expected some orderly conduct to such an international event as *SHOOTIN*. An event with disiplin and a documented set of loosely respected RULZ. So I guess Solomon, there is nothing more important to me than the tide and the wind if you want to know what is important in my life. Shootin and how it's incumbent manage the Rulz is or little or no significance at all. You are entirely right, it doesn't matter anymore than posting commercial advertisements to groups which forbid it... Until you discover that Anarchy is self destructive. Only with discipline can the world and everything in it survive. To me that is looking less and less likely to happen as more and more people decide to spit-the-dummy and resort to anarchy becasue survival is just too hard for them. Douglas |

The Shootin is also about participation. If extending the deadline gets more people to submit, then why is that a bad thing? I usually forget all about the mandate until Jim announces it has been posted. Perhaps a reminder a few days prior would be welcome. Also, for some reason only known to geeks, when you post [SI] in the title of the post it doesn't show up in Google Groups. So let's say that the next mandate was "D-Mac is a Dog-Killer" and Jim posted "[SI] D-Mac is a Dog-Killer" all it would say is "D-Mac is a Dog-Killer." Weird. |
