I used a darkroom for years and am a former international exhibitor at the Edinburgh Festival. It's the image that's important, not the method of production. Guess you thought wrong. Many of the best photographers, some of who I actually know, prefer film cameras, and optical or even contacted prints. Subject is an equally important element always on par with skill in technique In my opinion subject is not and excuse for not understanding and seeking skill in what one does. One can certainly achieve high quality using conventional materials and equipment if one has patience and talent. All the gadgets in the world can't give one talent and I take a certain satisfaction in that. In this field "photo" there are a lot of ego's and those seeking ego stroking, I btw, have seen them all. The message I leave you with is this, if you choose to be humble you can learn a lot and people will seek to help you. Sorry, piantings are not 'images'. Only lenses acn form images in the
strict sense of the term. By the way, digital photographs and chemical photographs both 'sample' the image produced by the lens. The film contains individual particles of silver, each of which reacts independently of any of the others. There are no 'continuous tones'. Each particle of silver is independent and in no way a continuation of another. The 'greys' are simply black particles in lower concentrations. |
