Wonderful bunch of posts! Many thanks to you all for excellent
replies! Will shoot some film with a yardstick and marker at f/16 with both lenses and see what it looks like. Will set it up first with the same lens to subject distance and compare results. Then try it with the yardstick filling the frame with both lenses and compare those results. I don't have time at the moment to think about any other way to compare two lenses that are 2X apart in focal length. BTW... the ground glass is not a fresnel type, but just a simple random etched type (sandblasted?). I assumed (dangerous) that if it was sharp with the Schneider it would be the same with the Caltar. Never considered that the Caltar might project onto the ground glass differently. The Caltar does generate a hot spot on the ground glass, which seems to be normal given the angle of incidence. Best regards to all! Great listserve! |
