It's a green heron; one of the spookiest birds on the planet.

"Spookiest"? :-)
Most spooky?

Yeah, that I understood, but I didn't realize that you meant it as

"easily
spooked" (as I guess you did). I thought of spooky in the meaning of
"scary, creepy" which made little sense ;-)

(English isn't my first language, sometimes the associations don't fly
right, eh?)

Yeah, that had me going, too, and English *is* my first (and only, apart
from the odd unparliamentary extensions!) language. How was it spooky?
I asked myself?. Did it fly silently down on you, and scare the sh*t
out of you as it went past? Nooo, I finally realized also, that Jim
probably meant 'easily spooked' like you did. Good for a grin, though.

What does where you live have to do with what you know?

We don't have green herons here, so how would I know what one looks like?

I ain't no birdwatchin geek.
I like eagles, hawks, cardinals, and hummers. Maybe the occasional bluebird or
finch. That's about it.

Actually, unless you've moved up to northern Canada, you do live in the
green heron's range.

Stop and take a look around you someday, the things you find may amaze even
you.

Go look up "sophomore" some time.
