Default finest grain C-41 colour film

Hello,
aplogies if this has been asked before. I have always been a BW
photographer, but having used some E6 and loved the fine grain of
Provia and Velvia in 35mm, I wondered what colour C-41 films would
have similar grain to these films.

I want the fine grain without such high contrast as these films have,
which is what made me think of trying some C-41. (I also might add
that I loved the colours of Provia; Velvia was too saturated for my
tastes, however. I have also used some Sensia, but didn't like the
larger grain.)

Do E6 films commonly have finer grain than C-41?

thanks,
Richard

Yes, in spite of the numbers, in practical use E6 films show much less grain
than negative films, especially when drum scanned for maximum quality. On a
less revealing scan you wouldn't see such a difference.

The grain is different with E6. I believe the grain is typically finer
with C-41 film of similar profile, but the grain is more noticable with
C-41. If you look at the grain RMS values for NPH-400 even, you will
find that the numbers are much lower than the best E-6 film (Fujifilm
Astia with an grain RMS value of 7). Yet, I think you will prefer the
E-6 film.

Thanks for that - the Fuji site however states that Sensia has an RMS
of 10.

I'll try the Reala - though I'm not quite clear what the difference is
between Superia 100 and Superia Reala 100. I'll also try the Provia
again.

Is Kodak Elite Color 200 available in your part of the world?

This stuff is outrageous. Blue sky in my scans made with a Minolta 5400
just looks as smooth as from a DSLR. Never seen anything like this with
any other print film. Great shadow detail as well.

Now, if only they'd supply it as roll film.

Reala is great. Looooow grain up to 8x 10.
Fuji used to market it as pro film a few years ago.
Price is low too.
The new fuji pro 160 s or c is great too.
Lost my faith in Kodak, portra just looks bland.

Very interesting. The last time I checked [a few weeks ago], I was sure
that it said 8, I wonder if there has been a change. Anyway, for the
others who haven't read about it:

The Reala has finer grain [at least it appears to in prints] and the
color saturation is more natural IMHO. The Superia 100 seems more
"Red", although it seems to be an alright film.
