No, not all that far-fetched, sounds just like something Canon would do (and *do* do on a regular basis). -- ? What the heck are you talking about, Dallas? Canon hasn't dropped a camera short of its product cycle since the EF-M of 1989. Or are you referring to the demise of the FD mount back in '87? Get over it. Come on, Skip. How many digital cameras has Canon brought out in the last five years (and not just SLR's)? -- ? |

How many digital cameras has Canon brought out in the last five years (and not just SLR's)? -- ? None were discontinued before their product cycle was stretched. In 5 years, there's been the D2000, D30, D60, 10D, 20D in line of succession, then the 1D/1Ds also descending from the D2000 then the mkII iterations of same, and, of course, the Rebel pair, 300D and 350D. In that same time, Nikon has produced the D1, D1h, D1x, D2h, D2x, D100 and D70, and are sure to produce at least one more, if not two, by the end of the year. So, for now, Canon has an 11-7 lead, but surely to be pared to an 11-9 lead soon. Not that great a difference. And if you add in the Kodak/Nikon and Kodak/Canon collaborations, the gap narrows even more... I don't keep track of all of the P&S offerings, Canon can offer bunches of them, for all I care. They do seem to cover more of the market than Nikon does, but that doesn't mean that they are discontinuing or replacing cameras faster, or even too fast. But Nikon has a bunch of non SLR digitals out there, too, as do Minolta and Olympus. -- Skip Middleton http://www.shadowcatcherimagery.com |
