Default Neg Popping on Beseler MX45

How do I avoid having neg pops on an MX45 enlarger. I've read where some
keep the enlarger light on until ready to print keeping the neg popped and
focussing on the popped neg. How would I go about blocking the light so I
can still have materials out with this enlarger. Is it easier to do this on
other enlargers?

The red filter under the lens? The MX needs two filter
carriers, one for the red filter and another for polycon
filters. The arraingement of the factory swing-arm filter
holder precludes attaching a clamp on holder to the lens.

But, as Bob recomends, a glass carrier is the answer to
popping: if it pops then you can't keep the center and
corners in focus at the same time.
