Default dark images

i've had a sanyo DSC-MZ2 digital camera for several years, and am just
now experiencing a problem with it. the picture in the display window
on the camera is very dark. in fact, it looks almost like a negative.
the photo images are also dark, as well as when i download the images
to my p.c.
the problem was immediate, in that i had 20-30 pictures stored on the
memory card that i took over the weekend. these pictures were all ok,
as was the display. but............when i looked at the image from a
group shot i took using the timer, that is when i noticed the dark
display and image.
the camera wasn't dropped or anything like that. i tried changing
batteries, changing all of the camera settings back to the original
factory settings as described by the manual, and even tried a
different memory card. sadly, none of that helped. i would think
that if the lcd on the camera was going out, the pictures would still
be ok when viewed on the monitor of my p.c.
has anyone experienced this, and knows how to fix it? thanks!!

Check what aperture you are using. Closing down say F11 can make images
darker.
