Can you guide me which digital camera best for my profession?
I'm a beginner photographer and I'm thinking in buying my first canon camera. Most
of what I do is portrait, Wedding and fashion photography and I'm still confused which canon camera should i buy. My options are EOS 40D, EOS 450D. Please let me know which one do you think is the best camera for me? My friend refer me one site provides http://alatest.com/reviews/digital-c...reviews/c3-147 but still i am looking for good digital camera reviews site. Also, what kind of lenses you recommend would be better to get for this camera? |

Also, what kind of lenses you recommend would be better to get for this camera? If you're a beginner, I'm glad you are not shooting my wedding. Many wedding photographers use the Canon 5D. Some also use the 40D (and 30D and 20D...). I would not use the 450D except as a backup because it is a slower camera to operate. As for lenses, you could do most shots with a fast normal zoom (17-55mm for the 40D or 24-70mm for the 5D). But your creative opportunities will increase with a greater selection of lenses... your choice depending on your shooting style. Archibald |

For equipment recommendations specifically tailored to wedding photography, google "wedding photography technique" and you'll find several sites with good information. As for equipment reviews, try http://www.dpreview.com for camera reviews and http://www.photozone.de for lenses (note that if the third-party lens you're interested in is not listed there for Canon it may be for Nikon or another system, but be careful comparing tests conducted across different systems). You might want to take a look at http://www.strobist.com too for a _lot_ of good information about lighting and photography in general. Beyond that, what do you already have and what kind of budget do you have? -- -- --John to email, dial "usenet" and validate (was jclarke at eye bee em dot net) |

Also, what kind of lenses I'd say http://dpreview is a _MUCH_ better resource and more pertinent to your case because it is not limited to compact cameras. After all, neither the 40D nor the 450D are compact by any reasonable definition of compact. you recommend would be better to get for this camera? Usually the kit lenses, while nothing to get excited about, will do their job for little money, until you figured out where they are lacking _for_you_. Do you need a faster lens? Do you need a longer lens? Do you need a lens with less distortion? Do you need a lens with perspective correction? ....? Once you figured that out you can go shopping specifically for a lens with those features, that _you(!)_ are missing in the standard kit lens. jue |

Also, what kind of lenses you recommend would be better to get for this camera? If you need to ask this type of question, then I am not sure that you have thought this through fully. It's a bit like saying you want to be a professional chef and asking what frying pan should you buy. Of course, everyone starts somewhere, but this sort of question get's peoples backs up as it implies that it's the camera that takes good photos, not the 12 inches behind the viewfinder. Going by work I have seen from good wedding photographers who use Canon SLR's, they have been mainly using 1D's and 5D's. Lenses they use vary depending on the photographer, although they usually use fast lenses. I have seen all of the following used often 16-35, 24-70, 70-200, 15 fisheye, 24, 35, 50, 85, 135, 200 and macro lenses. Even a 300. It comes down to personal choice. Vincent Laforet used a tilt and shift for creative effect in this photo: http://www.usa.canon.com/uploadedima...II_MG_0403.jpg) There is no reason why you couldn't use either a 40D or a 450D, although high ISO noise won't be as good as a 5D or 1DIII, but to ask such a question shows that maybe you have a lot to learn. Quite often your mouth, lighting, experience, artistic flare, etc. can play a much bigger role than what camera you are using. Lets face it, there are no real rubbish Canon or Nikon SLR's on the market, just ones with less features. |

Also, what kind of lenses you recommend would be better to get for this camera? Holy crap Batman, where to start! If you are a beginner then you are not a portrait, wedding and fashion photographer, perhaps you might want to do those but that is well into the future for you. To get started you will need at least 2x 5DII's, and a suitable lens selection for what you want to photograph, in fact I would probably have three just to be safe. I would recomend an 85mm F1.2 for the portrait work and something like a mid range zoom, maybe a 16-45 or 24-70mm and a 35mm & a 50mm for the wedding work. I would probably double up on around half the lenses so that your assistant can shoot some fill in work. For the fashion work it depends, do you do close event work or studio, for studio you will be needing a good light setup, maybe 3-4 will be enough to start, well setup with a good remote setup can do wonders. I would be thinking that around $20,000 will get you going and you can buy the rest as you find the need but you will recoup that pretty quickly and as you are a working photographer you can write it all off in three years anyway. Cheers. Pete |

If you really want to be a wedding or portrait photographer then I suggest you join WPPI, attend the convention in February and take every seminar you can get into (most of the good ones are filled already), and stop worrying about what kind of camera to get. -- Waddling Eagle World Famous Flight Instructor |
