If you continued reading the same thread on photo.net, you would have seen
that this isn't true.

Does anyone know what Agfa's market share was in the USA? I'm guessing 1-2% or
so?

Their largest presence in the US is with one time use cameras (35 mm), many of
which do not have the AGFA name on them. While these are not cameras that many of
us would ever (admit to) use, they are a big seller. AGFA is number three in film
sales (counting one time cameras) behind Kodak and Fuji, though barely 15% of the
market based on latest industry figures.

Not counting one time use cameras, AGFA has done better in the US recently with
their B/W and consumer films, though they are still a small player. There
transparency films are very low volume, according to most of the information I
have read about the industry. I would guess roll film sales to be very small
volume, and perhaps barely enough to keep some emulsions in production.

I tried a few rolls 10 years ago and thought it was dreadful compared to
Fuji and Kodak films so it won't be missed if the story is true, by me at
least. But hopefully it's not a harbinger of things to come from other
companies ...

While I have liked few of their products, I continue to use APX100. If they decide
to end production of that, it would be nice if they would consider selling it to
another company (perhaps Ilford).

Ciao!

Kodak "announced" that they were going to discontinue K200 and from what I've
read, due to the feedback they received, they did not discontinue it,
although they did raise the price.

I got an answer from Agfa Finland. They stated that the 120 films will
be available at least until fall/autumn 2004. What happens then? They
didn't tell.

Probably nothing. Just because no specific plans exist for a later date
doesn't mean that products will be discontinued. Agfa probably doesn't
know what it will be selling in the year 2050, either, but that doesn't
mean that it plans to go out of business before then.

Agfa just denied this statement on a german b/w forum.

They will continue to sell 120-Film, at leas here in germany.
If 120 film is avialiable in your country is completly up to
the local Agfa offspring/importing company.

I too just got «non-confirmation» from Agfa USA:

QUOTE:
________
Dear Eric,

Thank you for contacting Agfa Consumer Imaging. The range of Agfa products
offered from region to region throughout the world differs widely.
Occasionally Agfa makes adjustments in the product assortment that is
offered in individual countries or regions in accordance with market
conditions. This can involve either the addition or discontinuation of
certain products or sizes.

Please be advised that there are no immediate plans to discontinue Agfa 120
roll film in the United States.

Sincerely,
John Auer
