Are not 16mm lenses on 35mm considered fisheye? Lenses are not "considered" fisheye: they're either fisheye or they're not. It's a very specific projection. It was a question & I seem to remember Canon offered a 17mm fisheye lens for the AE-1and not another lens of that FL which was not designated as not a Fisheye. So there is the basis of my question. -- LF Website @ http://members.verizon.net/~gregoryblank "To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."--Theodore Roosevelt, May 7, 1918 |

The term "fisheye" refers to the projection type, not the field of view. A 16mm lens could be either fisheye (preserving relative area in the projected image) or rectilinear (preserving angles in the projected image). I own a 15mm fisheye lens for a 35mm system, but I am also aware of 14mm and 12mm rectiliear lenses for these systems. Fisheye lenses are tyipcally wide angle, simply because a) you can get a wider field of view with a fisheye lens (it is not physically possible to project a 180 degrees field of view onto a flat surface in a rectilinear manner), and b) a telephoto fisheye lens would just look like a rectilinear lens with a bad case of barrel-distortion. |

I think the really hard part will not be to translate from Japanese, but to find this thing anywhere. If you had seen the translation (in particular the bit about only being mfd in response to an order) then you'd know not to lookg. You're right, of course. Yet i already knew that, and i don't read Japanese, nor had i seen a translation... ;-) |
