Replacement Lens Hood
Yet again damage has caused me to replace another Nikon HB-39 lens
hood for my 16~85mm lens. I've had a look at Amazon to see if they can sell me one and I find I have a choice of the genuine Nikon, EzFoto, Fotodiox, Pearstone plus several others. B&H has the Nikon and the Pearstone. Too many choices. Too many prices even though the sums are relatively trivial. I would be grateful for any comments which could help me make a decision. For whatever it is worth, I have found the Nikon relatively fragile and flimsy. The need to replace the lens hood arises an unusual accident but this is the third time I have had to replace one. I'm open to recommendations for an alternative. Regards, Eric Stevens |

Regards, Eric Stevens That leaves you the obvious first option to replace with an original, or if feasible, to repair. I had to repair the HB-35 on my 18-200mm when a knock cracked one of the bayonet tabs. I used hot glue, making sure some of the filled part of the space so the crack would not open when compressed. The repair has been good for 18 months and the hood actually seems to fit a little snugger. http://homepage.mac.com/lco/filechute/HB-35.jpg -- Regards, Savageduck |

But it wouldn't be my first choice. Trevor. |

The first one fell off and got lost in long grass on the banks of a flooded mirror. The second one sheared off one of it's lugs somehow and third one, before it met it's violent end was always flimsy and difficult to mount. I was hoping one of the alternatives I mentioned in my original post might turn out to be slightly more rigid/rugged. Hopefully someone has relevant experience. Regards, Eric Stevens |

It was an easy and controllable fix with hot glue. ....but most importantly I had a hot glue gun handy, and no epoxy resin within 14 miles of my home. -- Regards, Savageduck |
