Default Kenko Pro 300 3X TeleConvertor ... problem? w / Canon EOS

I just bought a Kenko Pro 3X TC (Canon EOS) from B & H a few days ago. It
produces unsatisfactory results.

It doesn't work the same as my other TCs, and I would like to find out if my
experience is common or if I simply have a defective unit. I don't know if
I should ask for a replacement or a refund.

For my Canon EOS equipment I have 2 TCs that do work well (Canon 1.4X and
Kenko Pro 300 2X). With both of these TCs all of my EOS bodies recognize
the modified focal length and aperture of my 70 - 200 f2.8L lens (but not
most of my other lenses). The auto exposure works correctly with both of
these TCs even on the lenses that do not report the changed focal length.

When using the 3X TC with either my EOS1V or D30 the aperture and focal
length of the lens is reported (70 - 200 f2.8L) to the camera body and
stored in the EXIF data. When taking a picture with the D30 using the 'P'
setting the resulting picture is overexposed by at least 2 stops, I suspect
it will also be overexposed with the EOS1V but have not tested it.

A few years ago I did have a similar problem with a Tamron 2X TC that I
returned for a refund (replaced it with the Kenko Pro 300 2X), that TC had
fewer electrical contacts than the Kenko Pro 300 2X. The Tamron TC was
specifically designed for a Elan 7 body, and it did work correctly on an
Elan 7e body, but not on either the EOS1V or the D30. The problems that I
saw with it were ... original focal length & aperture were reported to the
body and the 'P' pictures were underexposed.

Does anyone have a Kenko Pro 300 3X for Canon EOS that does produce
satisfactory results with their digital body? What focal length & aperture
is recorded in the EXIF (lens + TC or just lens) ... and what model of body?

Thanks
