Default Windows 10 Experience

Over the weekend I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. It's a
painless experience and went without a hitch. All my apps carried
over and opened OK.

However, went I tried to use the Develop module in Lightroom, and
tried to edit in CC 2015, things hung up with that "Not responding"
message. Every time. The Library module in LR worked fine.

I did some web sleuthing and found this a fairly common problem and is
usually a problem with the graphics card drivers. I tried some fixes,
but nothing eliminated the problem.

Overall, I saw nothing special about Windows 10. There are some
differences in the Desktop that take a little getting used to, but no
particular advantages that I could determine.

Cortana works OK, and voice-opened apps and searched pretty well. That
"feature" doesn't ring my bell, though. I feel silly talking to the
machine when I can get where I want to go just as easily using my
fingers on the keyboard or using the mouse. I suppose I'm a primitive
cave dweller.

I went back Windows 7. That went well also. No hitches at all, and
everything is now back as it was. PS and LR work a treat.

I'm not anti-10, but I have no further interest in the upgrade. I
suppose I'll have to accept 10 if and when I buy a new computer, but
that computer will assumedly have the right graphics card drivers.

Just to be clear, I *think* it was a graphics card driver but never
really determined that this was the problem with LR and PS, or that
this was the only problem. I didn't bother to re-install either app.
Because 10 was nothing special otherwise, I didn't pursue a solution
beyond a few steps.

I had a strange Windows 1- experience that I thought was a graphic card
problem. I updated four computers simultaneously one night. Like
yours, my upgrades went on without a hitch.

I use my desktop 99% of the time when I'm home. I noticed some apps
misbehaving - Canon Digital Photo Professional, Sigma Photo Pro,
Ashampoo Burning Studio 15, and Photoshop ACR. Canon DPP would take two
minutes to open and then would stop responding when I converted the
first raw file. Sigma Photo Pro would take about three minutes to open
and then worked OK but slowly. Ashampoo Burning Studio would take about
five minutes to pen but would work fine after that. Adobe ACR disabled
gpu acceleration in order to run. That hinted at a graphics card/driver
issue. I did install new Windows 10 drivers for my card but the card
wasn't fully supported it seemed. I went back to Win 8.1 and got a new
video card. I installed it and then upgraded to Win 10 and had the same
problem. I then did what I should have done sooner - I checked Event
Viewer and found a slew of errors, one after another. It was the same
error and the first one corresponded with the time I clicked on Canon
DPP to open it and the last corresponded with the time the program
stopped responding. The error was that my external CD/DVD drive had a
bad sector. Strange. Why would that cause all of these problems. I
opened the drive up and found I had left a disc in there. I took the
disk out and problem solved, no more issues. I put the disc back in and
couldn't replicate the problem. Never saw anything like that before.

My Win 10 experience is now just fine, everything works very well. I
don't use Lightroom so I can't relate to your experience with that but
Photoshop CC works fine.
