Yes, I think top-posting is very bad on newsgroups and mailing lists -
at least for any language where one normally reads from the top of the
page to the bottom, which is probably most, if not all languages (there
may be exceptions).

It is also bad form to quote a whole message and then add one line:

Yeah, resurrecting old threads gets my goat. Especially on a subject
where everyone has opinions and there is no definitive answer.

I like having some back-reference to the subject at the end of the file, a
fact that justifies:

current opinion
opinion3
opinion2

This would also inevitably lead to huge messages that people using some dial
up connection may have trouble to download (or at least this will become
annoying). I think the latter is the reason why most groups I know
discourage top posting and I think it is fair enough.

Who cares?

As long as the new text is identifiable, the reader can scroll down and read
the rest, if they desire.

For me, it's irrelevant.
