The film used in the SR71 looks like a large format roll film. Plus the
huge diameter lens is truly impressive looking. There must be a good reason for wanting lots of film area when resolution is of prime importance. |

huge diameter lens is truly impressive looking. There must be a good reason for wanting lots of film area when resolution is of prime importance. Actually there were lots of cameras aboard. They ranged from 35mm to 9.5 inches. The main camera was the 5 inch film size scan or OBC. The side looking TOC's were 9.5 inch units. Actually the whole system really didn't work all that well in a true operational mode. Although the plane sure looked great. Larry |

Don't forget the advantages of having those optics in a vacuum and the path
from subject to optic is influenced by an ever decreasing proportion of atmospheric interference. Actually the vacuum caused more problems then in air. One of the big problems is outgasing. Sort of like eating too many bakebeans. Larry |
