Default conversion film slr to dig slr?

sorry, all, this is a repeat post some weeks ago to some of the groups
but i
did not see any response. Also profound apologies to crossposting to so
many
groups as i am not sure which would be the most relevant to assist. Please
help.
thanks a lot

Here is my question: why should i switch to digital nikon even though some
of
the nikkor ae lenses can be adapted to the relevant nikon d series.?
nikon should come up with some sort of conversion kit, e.g. convert the
backplates into digital with xxx gig chips memory on the millions of nikon
cameras in the world ?
of course, nikon would say it is tough. Nothing is tough if they want to
put
their heads into it.
maybe some other camera companies would come up with a universal digiital
adaptors for the conventional film cameras??
i am saving thes two posts just in case facebook crashes again . Any
response
would be most appreciated.
thanks a lot

Hello Pluto.

The simple answer is that it is cheaper to buy a digital SLR than to buy a
digital back. I think that only Leica made an "add on" digital back for
their 35mm film SLR body and this cost several thousand US dollars. How much
would a Nikon DSLR cost?

There are now plenty of second-hand DSLRs on the market so the cost to
change to digital shouldn't be too great (and certainly cheaper than buying
a digital back.

Yes, Canon, Nikon and Zeiss Ikon all made alternative backs for their film
SLRs (usually to enable them to take a 250 shot length of film) but that was
all using film technology. Digital technology is a little different.

May I also suggest that it is not a good idea to post to a large number of
newsgroups on the grounds that " i am not sure which would be the most
relevant to assist". It should be obvious that newsgroups for large-format,
medium-format and film+labs are not applicable and using multiple newsgroups
make it look as though you are trolling.

I'm posting this response only to rec.photo.digital.slr-systems as this is
the obvious choice for a question regarding SLRs and digital capabilities.

Regards, Ian.
