Anyone ever arrested for taking a photo in the U.S.?

Inside the airport is covered by the Patriot act and is illegal. It's posted in almost every airport I've been in. Not sure what the photos would do for you. Tom "JustaPawn" wrote in message ... I was killing time in the airport in NY one morning, shooting the empty escalators, etc. Some Nazi-rent-a-security gave me a bunch of grief claiming I'd be arrested if I continued... homeland security and all... REally haven't noticed, and I have been to DFW,LAS,SEA,Charlotte, lately. If it was posted, I missed it completely. But then I don't see much in an airport to photograph. |

Yeah -- it surely would be easy to get arrested if you work at it. And
appearing to case a bank might be a way :-) Phil Johnny wrote: One of the guys at a local camera store said he was tracked down and questioned after taking pictures of a local (Omaha, NE) 40-story bank building. John |

John John and et all, I don't know if any of you are old enough to remember McCarthyism ( a US of A phenomenon) where anyone who was a communist in 1921 was a red under the bed. Likewise at the out break of WW2 in the US of A all Japanese, looking individuals where interned. Likewise any Italians, Germans and Japanese where interned funny enough the Russians where are allies in WW2 ( strictly a marriage of convenience). In article ,
Johnny wrote: One of the guys at a local camera store said he was tracked down and questioned after taking pictures of a local (Omaha, NE) 40-story bank building. John Any member of NPPA (National Press Photographers Association) can detail frequent arrests of working TV and still photographers while covering various news events. This is not a recent occurrence. They have been going on for years. In some cases cameras have been destroyed or confiscated, as have film or tape and photographers manhandled or injured by over zealous police. Almost every issue of the NPPA magazine has a current story of a photographer being arrested. And these are photographers who are doing their job as press reporters. And yes, sometimes the photographer may be interfering with a crime scene. Frequently they aren't. -- To reply no_ HPMarketing Corp. |

I think you are expanding the context of the original thread. There likely has been no era when taking pictures of banks or military facilities or businesses involved in military production (or even such as MicroSoft in Redmond) would not arouse justifiable suspicion. Admittedly 9/11 has increased sensitivities, but caution is hardly McCarthyism. BTW -- I have the tape "Point of Order": Truly chilling, just as when I watched it on live TV in the 50s. Phil |

I was once stopped by GE police while taking a night picture of a General
Electric sign in Schenectady, NY. Seems I has wandered onto GE property in order to get the best view. Upshot? They got my film. I haven't taken my best picture yet. |

At no time we German or Itialians put into intrernment camps, that was strictly and only west coast Japanese. Good luck. |

It's common to ban photography at public performances; presumably to maintain their control over images of the valuable performers. This sounds like maybe a compromise, intended to allow people snapshots of their big fun, while still protecting the commercially usable photos. And will no doubt become less common since there are so many high-quality digital cameras with long-zoom fixed lenses on them :-). A local(ish) venue in nottingham called Rock City has a slightly more restrictive policy... nothing that looks professional, and no digital cameras... which more or less restricts you to the throw away (Disposable) point and shoot films; even then they are sometimes funny over the ones with built in flashes. There are a couple of reasons for them being fussy, one is that the bands that play may have issues with copyrights over their images (or something along thoes lines, the usual bull.) the other is incase there is anyone under age that is in the venue who might be snapped and "published," as the licence is 18+ Other smaller venues tend to restrict the entrance age to younger (16+) as they are not night clubs but rather public venues that have an alcohol license. -- Jonathan Wilson. www.somethingerotic.com |
