I beg to differ. By "advocating" Liberty one takes a stand in favor of
it, in other words "promotes" it. Charles' link to howstuffworks was
very helpful. I was mistaken to think that ACLU is partisan, it isn't.
In that sense you are correct, it advocates Liberty not "Liberalism" in
the political sense. However, it is no coincidence that the two words
are so close semantically.


If not for ACLU - the well organized right wing PR and hawkish think
tank would go unchallenged. I also have recently come to the conclusion
that extreme rhetoric may be necessary at least initially to call
attention to issues.


Have you ever noticed that the only people who seem to think that the
ACLU is not a front for the Democratic party are those who continually
rant about right wing conspiracies? :-)
