film for outdoor portraits in strong light?
I wish to take a series of family portraits at a gathering around Christmas,
not formal, but with more planning than family snaps. There will be strong bright light outdoors (unless I am lucky and get good bright overcast weather) or bright indoors / sunroom. I will try to avoid direct flash if possible. The subjects have a range of skin tones, from fair Irish to olive and very dark. I was thinking of the Kodak Select films for my 35mm, suggestions welcome, good tone range plus they appear to be able to cope with bright light. I intend to try some 2 1/4 twin lens reflex - first time, some suggestions on colorfilm welcome. Phil |

Subject: film for outdoor portraits in strong light?
From: "Phillean" Follow the lead of your local Wedding Photographer and use a wedding film. Formulated for people, it's available from several manufacturers in several speeds. I like Kodak Portra 160 NC/VC 400 NC/VC Fuji has NPS/NPH. With or without flash, but for darker skin tones flash would be best. |

You should also do whatever you can to soften the shadows. Use fill flash or reflectors. |
