Nikon D300s Raw File

Why do we need a new Adobe Camera Raw if this is the same sensor as the D300. Does every model require there own - even if they are the same sensor. Thanks, Rick It's not the same as the D300. It is the same as the D5000, and improved over the D300. It may also have slightly different AA filter parameters to the D5000 and therefore need a minor tweak to ACR, though often enough it's just a camera identity change. DXO rates that below the d90, mainly higher s/n ratio and lower dr at higher ISO. |

Even if it was the same sensor there's no way for ACR to know that it's the same sensor. Cameras record in the RAW file a camera identifier and not a sensor identifier. -- Ray Fischer |

I was dreading having to wait for ACR to catch up but it opened the K7 file without protest. Steve |

Steve Actually they are different, CS4 will only open the K-7 files if you have the updated RAW, you will find that ACR was updated vary early to do K-7 files. CS3 will open K20D files but not K-7 files. I had to go to LightRoom 2.4 to get support for K-7 files. |

Steve I had a long wait with my K10D as well, luckily I was able to just shoot DNG because Pentax had just included it as an option. I am shooting with DNG at the moment because I want native support in CS3 rather than having to convert first. Cheers. Pete |
